How to Save Places From Instagram Reels to a Map
Instagram saves the Reel, not the place. Three ways to get the spots from a Reel onto Google Maps, from one-by-one to every place at once.
Quick answer
Instagram's Save button keeps the Reel, not the place, and saved Reels have no map view. To get the places on a map, copy the Reel's link and paste it into ReelMap at reelmap.io, which pins the places it can identify, with a rating and a Google Maps link for each one, and the first analysis is free.
What Instagram can and can't do
Saving a Reel bookmarks the video. Instagram documents that on its help page for saving posts. That page does not describe a map of the places in the Reel, and Instagram has no button that sends a Reel to Google Maps.
Instagram Map is a different feature. On August 6, 2025, Meta described it in New Instagram Features to Help You Connect. It sits at the top of the DM inbox. It shows location-tagged Reels, posts, and Stories from people you follow, for 24 hours after they are posted. You can opt in to share your last active location with friends you choose. Location sharing stays off until you turn it on. Meta said it was launching in the United States first. On October 6, 2025, Meta announced it in India. It is not a map of your saves, and it is not on every account.
TikTok bookmarks have the same gap. How to save TikTok travel spots is that version of the problem.
3 ways to save places from a Reel to a map
1. One place at a time
- Open the Reel. Check the location tag first, then the caption, then the comments.
- Search that place in Google Maps and tap Save to add it to a list. Repeat for each place.
2. Google Maps Screenshot to save
- Screenshot the Reel on a frame where the place name is visible as text.
- Let Google Maps find the place, review it, and save it.
Google's help page, Save places from screenshots in Google Maps, says this is only on iPhone or iPad, and only in certain countries. It is off until you turn it on, and it needs the name as text in the image. A Reel that only says the name out loud gives it nothing to read. That page also does not offer it on Android.
3. Every place at once, with ReelMap
- Copy the Reel link. In Instagram, tap the paper-plane Share icon, then Copy link.
- Paste the link into ReelMap. Open reelmap.io in any browser and paste the link. No Instagram login is needed. The first analysis is free.
- Review the pins. Each one shows a name, an address when Google Maps has one, a rating when Google Maps has one, and a View on Maps link.
- Open in Google Maps or export. Open a place with View on Maps. On the free result, sign in to download the CSV or the Google Maps KML file. A public shared map offers those same downloads without signing in. Signing up includes 5 free credits.
ReelMap reads the public link. It does not read your saved folder, and it does not ask for your Instagram password. A private or deleted Reel will not produce a map. Your first travel map is free covers what the free result includes.
Comparison
| Method | Places per Reel | Effort | Needs an app? | Works on Android? | Ends in Google Maps? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| One place at a time | One place per search | Repeat the search and save for each place | Google Maps, in the app or on the web | Yes | Yes. You tap Save on each place. |
| Screenshot to save | Only names visible as text | Take a screenshot, then review what Maps finds | The Google Maps app on iPhone or iPad | No. Google limits it to iPhone and iPad | Yes, after you review and tap Save |
| ReelMap | The places it can identify in that Reel | Paste one public link | No. It runs in the browser | Yes | Yes. Each place has a Google Maps link. The free result asks you to sign in for the CSV and the Google Maps KML file. A public shared map offers both without signing in |
Got a backlog of saved Reels?
A folder of saved Reels is still a grid. Clustering those places into days is the next job: turn your Instagram Reels saves into a real trip plan. A worked food example is Osaka's food scene mapped from Reels. One unnamed restaurant is a different hunt: how to find a restaurant from a TikTok. The TikTok paste-a-link version is how do I turn a TikTok into a Google Maps list?, and the free no-app version is is there a free way to turn a TikTok or Reel into a map?.
FAQ
Can I save an Instagram Reel to Google Maps directly?
Not directly. Instagram has no save-to-Google-Maps button. Use the location tag and search the place yourself, use Google Maps Screenshot to save when the name is visible as text on an iPhone or iPad, or paste the public Reel link into ReelMap.
Can I see my saved Instagram Reels on a map?
No. Saved Reels are a grid of videos, not a map. Instagram Map, which Meta announced on August 6, 2025, shows location-tagged posts from people you follow for 24 hours, and an opt-in to share your location with friends. It is not a map of your saves.
Do I need to log in to Instagram or give my password?
No. ReelMap uses the public Reel link. It does not ask for your Instagram password. Private or deleted Reels have no public video to read, so they will not produce a map.
What if the Reel shows several places?
ReelMap pins the places it can identify from the caption, on-screen text, and audio. A Reel that names five spots can come back with five pins. A Reel that never names or shows a place may come back with fewer pins, or with none.
Can I save Reel places to Apple Maps?
Apple Maps is not a ReelMap export. ReelMap gives you Google Maps links, a CSV spreadsheet, and a KML file for Google My Maps.
